The 1999 Tour was often dubbed The Triple
Threat Tour because of Vanity 6 and The Time being the opening acts for
Prince. The tour was originally scheduled to last until the end of 1982,
but because of it's succes the added a second, 1983 leg to it, playing bigger arena's
and ice-hockey rinks with a capacity up to 20,000. Dates were planned in Amsterdam and London, but they were cancelled due to the extention of
the tour. Dates scheduled for Amsterdam and London at the end of the tour were also cancelled.
The 90-concert tour
was a crittical and commercial succes, grossing almost $10 million making
it one of the biggest selling tours of 1983. The only often heard complaint
is that Prince's set was too short. On the 1983 leg The Time was sometimes
removed from the bill. No official reasons were given, but it is suspected
that Prince didn't want to run the risk of being upstaged by them.
Because of the success of Little Red Corvette on MTV during the 1983 leg the audience became more and more white.
After the tour Dez Dickerson left the band to start his own band,The Modern
Aires. He was replaced by Wendy Melvoin.

The early shows had a different version of Lady Cab Driver, with different

Dirty Mind replaced Automatic. The new song Possessed was played a few times during the last couple of shows.
