Controversy Tour

The Controversy tour was split over 2 legs, one in 1981 and one in 1982. Unlike the previous tour this split was planned and provided a break after new year. The Time featured as opening act and sometimes Zapp was an extra opening act between The Time and Prince. They played 2,000-8,000 capacity theaters. The shows ranged from 70-85 minutes and featured 10-11 songs. Continuing from the Dirty Mind Club Tour the audience continued to be mixed.
Similar to what happened with Prince and Rick James, now The Time put on a great show to upstage Prince. Of course Prince did not feel happy about this and things between him and The Time deteriorated, which continued into the following 1999 tour.

The first few shows started with Sexuality and closed with Uptown. This changed pretty soon with Uptown becomming the opener and Sexuality being dropped at all. Private Joy was occasionally played as encore. Sexy Dancer was performed in some shows. In the 2nd leg of the tour Annie Christian, When Your Were Mine and an occasionally Still Waiting were performed.
